I am a Syro-Malabar priest but membe...Dear Editor,
I am a Syro-Malabar priest but member of a Latin missionary Congregation working in North Eastern region of India. I have been to Shillong, Guwahati and many other major cites in the region where Syro-Malabar community long to have the liturgical celebrations in their own original rite. I was helping the community. Their desire to have a church of their own was not granted as there weren't enough faithful to establish a church. They do really long to have it. Fortunately or unfortunately you are given the opertunity but you do not want it.
As I red the interview and discussions I feel the reluctance of the community to give up their identity at the same time very much reluctant to accept it. Yes the codes of the law are interpreted differently here how ever I have a serious doubt that if you do not want to change your rite why don't you practice it. It is our heritage what we have received from our ancestors as Syrian christians. Why don't we hand it over to our children.
I am not intrested in the possibility of a change of rite. However each of the suiuris churches laws are different from that of the Latin Church. According to the Latin code it is the duty of the bishop to take care of the faithful of the other rite by creating opertunities for them to worship in yheir own rite and not to force them to follow the Latin rite. There are also a lot of complications regarding marriage, it's validity, procedure for annulment etc. In that connection what your Rev. Eparch said in his interview to an extant is true. If you do not like to change your practices why don't you just give a try by giving a letter to your Bishop. If it doesn't work of course let's approach Holy Father. I feel both are hurt specially the ego. Dear friends please discuss these matters in the proper forum . Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05684895751185723619noreply@blogger.com
