Ending celibacy is the only viable and lasting solution to such henious and recurring incidents. Syro Malabar Church after becoming a self governing Church has made many changes different from the Latin Churches much against the wishes of the Laity. This includes the switching of the Ash Wednesday to Monday and the replacing the traditional cross on the Altar with Manikkan (Claver) Cross. Using their independent status they should end celibacy at the earliest. The entire Syro Malabar faithful and even people belongs to the other faiths will wholeheartedly support such a decision. I think KCRM should be at the forefront to demand and effect such a revolutionary change. We should consider the fact that both the victim and the accused are our own children, sibilings or cousins. I suggest that inorder to gather and gain public opinion for this issue, KCRM may consider observing a one day fast before all the Syro Malabar Diocese offices in Kerala during this Lent season.I am sure vast majority of the Syro Malabar Clergy will be with us in such a move even though they may hesitate to express it in public.
