On the one side the Church is fighting tooth and nail against liquor, then why can't they think about dropping the controversial manufacturing of wine? Though the purpose is ritualistic and has noble connotations, I think inculturation can be brought in this area also...like introducing coconut water or some other alternatives instead of wine... I do hope Christ will gladly accept the Kerala scenario. Shri Kochouseph Chittilappally (Facebook)

Sijo Kurien Church thinks they are superior to anyone and can pass their judgment on anyone. In fact they have become a thing to laugh at. Politics, nepotism, black money, fraud is most prominent in church. Church has become a medium to accumulate wealth and to protect it. First of all they should not interfere in peoples matters and must understand they are not the only ones in Kerala. If they demand they should first show the morality. They hold on to huge acres of land when common man struggles to buy a few cents for survival and then dictates common man how to live and how to be selfless. Irony
Prem Mathew Jacob I cannot understand why the Catholic church takes an Excise license and manufactures wine which has alcohol content. In my knowledge Only the Catholic church is adamant on using such a wine. I don't think it is mentioned anywhere in any religious records/books, ancient scriptures or texts that the Wine was of alcohol content. All other Eastern / Orthodox Churches use either juice from grapes or some form of grape extract and calls it wine / 'veenju' symbolizing the blood of Jesus during the Holy Eucharist. So my opinion is that it is ridiculous for a set of Bishops and Priests insisting that they can use only wine which brewed/fermented in a winery and having alcoholic content.. The whole thing smells of commercial interests as well apart from other reasons.
Ravindran Pillai Sir, why they are adamant in Kerala only ? why cant they do it in Vatican ? What is happening there on St. Patric's day ??? I got my favourite beer with in 100 meters of the Pope's residence. lot of wine too there.
Noble Paul I find it ridiculous that people need the govt permission to make wine. Everyone should be free to do that
Mohankumar Nair Kaithakuzhy You said it sir. When churches have adopted most of the temple rituals / temple arts in churches, why they cannot think about a replacement of wine?
