Mumbai:
Teachers
of schools governed by the Archdiocesan Board of Education (ABE) are planning
to write to Pope Francis about not being paid their dues.
"The schools are charging high fee, but we are yet to get any money. There are over 200 teachers who are awaiting their dues," said a teacher from a school under the ABE.
Teachers said they were not being paid as per scales of seniority and the Sixth Pay Commission.
"We have written several times to the ABE and tried meeting Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the Archbishop of Bombay, but he hasn't given us time. We will send an email to the Pope," said a teacher.
But ABE authorities denied that the dues were delayed from their end.
"We have instructed schools to pay as per the Sixth Pay Commission recommendation. Teachers must approach their schools for the dues. Some schools are in very poor areas and can't afford to pay teachers the arrears," said Father George Athaide, secretary of the ABE.
On the seniority scale demand, Athaide said, "Teachers might have not have requisites like in-service training to avail the seniority scales."
