Catholic Church Reform International is a global movement set up in June 2013 to bring "a peoples' voice" to a Church that has been for centuries too heavily top-down in its governance. It is currently supported by more than a hundred reform organizations and thousands of individuals in 65 countries, and is growing daily. Dear Pope Francis,
Catholic Church Reform International welcomes your creation of an 8-person Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
Your advisor, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, announced plans to form this new commission in early December 2013.
That you have taken more than three months to select these eight members of the Commission indicates how serious you are in your wish to get to the heart of the problem.
We are particularly encouraged by the balanced  membership of the Commission--three clerics and five non-clerics, including four women who will bring their insights and experience to the work ahead.
We feel this long-awaited work will help overturn the Church's exclusively-male, exclusively clerical control over the Catholic community worldwide.  Further, we applaud your appointment, of Marie Collins, an Irish survivor of abuse by a Catholic priest, who has strongly critiicized the Church for its failure to deal with the bishops and senior clerics responsible for covering up the criminal abuse of children.

Rene Reid (for Catholic Church Reform International)
