If the cardinal would have made any protest statement, ' Agenzia Fides' is obliged to publish it. This is in accordance with the European charter of freedom of opinion and press law. No protest action was undertaken by cardinal. Hence the earlier version published by 'Agenzia Fides' remains true.
The Cardinal, in his revised statement, said only this about the killing of two Indian fishermen, but he never rebuked the earlier version as untrue. “Two precious lives have been lost. Strong legal action should be taken against the guilty.”
According to the European press laws 'Agenzia Fides published the second statement too and they respected the norms of a fine journalism.
Publishing a protest statement of any form in Indian news papers could not be evaluated as a good journalistic tradtion.
It raises very serious questions. Was it necessary for a cardinal to interfere in state affairs, especially when the political machinery of two mighty nations are involved ?.
The statement is a ticking bomb for communalism. The waves of protest within the church as well as outside are becoming stronger.This has caused more damage to the already disfigured face of the SM church.
The SM church is already facing multidimensional problems like involvement of a bishop with underworld business people (as reported by Mangalam) and lack of communication of bishops with the people of God, their power hunger, controversies like Persian cross, altar veil and liturgy, participation of the laity in the church, corruption in the church institutions, utter discrimination of dalit christians in the church and misuse of church funds etc,
let the charity to begin at home. We wish the cardinal all success.

വ്യക്തിപരമായി സീറോമലബാര്‍ സഭയിലെ ഏതു ബിഷപ്പിനെക്കാളും കര്‍ദ്ദിനാള്‍ സ്ഥാനം അലങ്കരിക്കുവാന്‍ ആലഞ്ചേരിപിതാവ് തന്നെയാണ് യോഗ്യന്‍. കല്‍ദായക്കാര്‍ക്കും മുസ്ലിംരാജ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും കേരളസഭയെ വില്‍ക്കണമെന്നു വാശിപിടിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന താപ്പനകളായ പവ്വത്തും താഴത്തുമൊക്കെ ഇന്നു

തോന്നിപോവുന്നു. കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളിനെ കുടുക്കുവാന്‍ സര്‍വ്വഅടവുകളും ഇവര്‍ പ്രയോഗിച്ചിരിക്കും.
കര്‍ദ്ദിനാള്‍ ഈ സംഭവത്തെപ്പറ്റി അവ്യക്തമായ മറുപടിയും പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ജനങ്ങളുടെ ചോദ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഉത്തരംപറയാതെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറുന്നതും സംശയത്തിന് ഇടനല്‍കുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ആരെയോ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നുവെന്നു വേണം അനുമാനിക്കുവാന്‍. ചോദ്യങ്ങളുമായി വരുമ്പോള്‍ ഉത്തരംനല്‍കാതെ ഉമ്മന്‍ ചാണ്ടി
ഒഴിഞ്ഞുമാറുന്നതിലും രാഷ്ട്രീയതട്ടിപ്പും ഈ സംഭവുമായി ബന്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുവെന്നു കരുതാം. രാഷ്ട്രീയം അതിന്‍റെ വഴിക്ക് പോവട്ടെയെന്നു ഇനിയെങ്കിലും മതാധികാരികള്‍ ചിന്തിക്കുമോ?
ആഗോളസഭയിലെ സീറോമലബാര്‍ എന്ന വിഭാഗം സ്വയംഭരണാധികാരമുള്ള
ഒരു പ്രമുഖ സഭയാണ്. രാഷ്ട്രീയ സാമ്പത്തികനിലകളില്‍ ഈ സഭയ്ക്ക് മറ്റെല്ലാ
ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ സഭകളെക്കാള്‍ സ്വാധീനവും ഉണ്ട്. അതുകൊണ്ട് എന്തും ആകാമെന്നുള്ള അധികാരമത്ത്‌ ആകമാന സീറോ മലബാര്‍രൂപതകളിലെ ബിഷപ്പുമാര്‍ക്ക് ബാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
കോണ്‍ഗ്രസ്പാര്‍ട്ടിയില്‍ മറ്റാര്‍ക്കും വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുവാന്‍ സാധിക്കാത്തവണ്ണം സ്വാധീനം പരമ്പരാഗതമായി ഇവര്‍ കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു. രാഷ്ട്രഭരണത്തില്‍
നയതന്ത്രമായ എല്ലാ സ്വാധീനത്തിന് പുറമേ ഒരു തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് വരുന്ന സമയം ആരൊക്കെ മത്സരിക്കണമെന്ന് തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നതും പുരോഹിത
മെത്രാന്‍വര്‍ഗമാണെന്നുള്ളതും പരിതാപകരമാണ്.
വിമോചനസമരത്തിനു ചുക്കാന്‍ പിടിച്ചു വിജയംനേടിയ ചരിത്രവും സഭയ്ക്ക് മാത്രമാണ്. ഒരിക്കല്‍ ചീമൊട്ടയെറിഞ്ഞ മന്നത്ത് പത്മനാഭനെ ഇവര്‍ വെറും ഒരു അയിക്കോണ്‍ ആയി മുമ്പില്‍ നിറുത്തിയെന്നു മാത്രം. അന്ന്മുതല്‍ കേന്ദ്രത്തിലും കേരളത്തിലും ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ ബിഷപ്പുമാര്‍ക്ക് നല്ല സ്വാധീനവുംലഭിച്ചു. നെഹ്‌റു കുടുംബം മൊത്തം ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളുടെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിമാരായിരുന്നു.
ഇടയലേഖനങ്ങള്‍ ഇറക്കി ജനാതിപത്യമൂല്യങ്ങളെ തകര്‍ത്തു വിശ്വാസികളെ മുഴുവന്‍ ഇവരുടെ സ്വാധീന വലയത്തിലുമാക്കി. സഭയ്ക്കുള്ള
രാഷ്ട്രീയസ്വാധീനവും ആലഞ്ചേരി വിവാദവിഷയങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രതിഫലിച്ചുകാണാം.
സമൂഹത്തിന്‍റെ എല്ലാ മേഖലകളിലുള്ളവരും കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളിന്‍റെ രാജ്യദ്രോഹ
പ്രസ്താവനകളില്‍ പ്രധിഷേധിച്ചു മുറവിളി കൂട്ടിയപ്പോഴും എക്കാലവും വാചാലതയോടെ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഉമ്മന്‍ ചാണ്ടിപോലും ഒരു അഭിപ്രായവും പറയാതെ ശാന്തനായി അഭിനയിച്ചു. സീറോ മലബാര്‍സഭ കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളിന്‍റെ പ്രസ്താവനകള്‍ തെറ്റായി വന്ന പത്രവാര്‍ത്തയെന്നു സ്ഥിതികരിച്ച സ്ഥിതിക്ക് തനിക്കൊന്നും പറയുവാന്‍ ഇല്ലെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ഉമ്മന്‍ ചാണ്ടി മുങ്ങിയതും സഭയുടെ ആത്മാര്‍ഥതയില്‍ സംശയിക്കേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു വാക്കുപോലും ഭരണത്തില്‍ ഉള്ളവര്‍ ആരും കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളിനു എതിരായി പറഞ്ഞില്ല.
കമ്മ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ്കാരും ലത്തീന്‍കത്തോലിക്കരും ഒന്നടങ്കം ഈ രാജ്യദ്രോഹ പ്രസ്താവനയെ എതിര്‍ത്തു. സീറോമലബാറും ലത്തീന്‍സഭയും തമ്മില്‍ പൊട്ടിത്തെറി ഉണ്ടാകുമോയെന്ന് ഭയപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള്‍ മാത്രമാണു ലത്തീന്‍ മെത്രാപോലീത്താ ഡോക്ടര്‍ സൂസ്സംപാക്ക്യം ഇടപെട്ടത്. കര്‍ദിനാള്‍ അങ്ങനെ ദേശീയവിരുദ്ധ പ്രസ്താവന ചെയ്യുകയില്ലായെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ലത്തീന്‍ വിശ്വാസികളെ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്തി. വത്തിക്കാനിലെ ചില തന്ത്രശാലികള്‍ ഇതിനു പിന്നില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചുവെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. മാര്‍പാപ്പ ഒരിക്കലും മറ്റുള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ
പ്രശ്നങ്ങളില്‍ ഇടപെടുകയില്ലെന്നും മെത്രാപ്പോലീത്താ തറപ്പിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു.
എങ്കിലും മത്സ്യ തൊഴിലാളിയൂണിയനുകള്‍ ഇന്നും കര്‍ദ്ദിനാളിന്‍റെ
നിശബ്ദതയില്‍ കുപിതരാണ്. രണ്ടു മത്സ്യതൊഴിലാളികളുടെ ജീവന്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിട്ടും ഇറ്റാലിയന്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരിനെ ന്യായികരിക്കുവാന്‍ കേരളീയരുമുള്ളതു അങ്ങേയറ്റം നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യകരമെന്നും കടല്തീരത്തുള്ളവരുടെ പൊതുസംസാരമാണ്.
