Priest Told to Leave Partner

The famous phrase – whited sepulchre – Jesus used to describe the clergy of those days still suits the church.  There are so many skeletons in the Church’s cupboard but they put on a “holy” mask.  With the immense money-power, they intimidate the media and negative news about the church are never published, at least not in Kerala.  Almaya Sabdam considers exposing the ugly face of Catholic Church the world over as our responsibility.  In addition to constructive criticism, you will find here several news the mainstream media will not dare to publish.

The Catholic Church has ordered an 81-year-old priest to leave his partner of 46 years or be forced to quit the priesthood.

Father Jan Peijnenburg's relationship with Threes van Dijck, 85, was unacceptable to other priests, the Den Bosch diocese in the central Netherlands said.

''We are giving him the choice: either he leaves his partner or he leaves the priesthood,'' said a diocesan spokesman, Michiel Savelsbergh.

''We cannot allow him to do that which is forbidden to others.''

But Father Peijnenburg told the daily newspaper AD, through a friend, that the church had known of his relationship for about a decade.

In a veiled admission of complicity, the diocese said it had given the ultimatum after Father Peijnenburg wrote a leaflet criticising priestly celibacy which ''confirmed what we knew''.

''Other priests reacted and, as we had had a written confirmation, we couldn't leave things as they were,'' Mr Savelsbergh said.

Catholic priests are forbidden to marry, except in certain cases where married clergy convert to Catholicism from other religions.

Father Peijnenburg has until December 1 to decide but, according to AD, his choice is already made: love over religion. ''Naturally I choose Threes. We are staying together,'' Father Peijnenburg said.

  1. Jesus said:"So they are no longer two, but one. No human being must separate, then, what God has joined together." But Catholic Church orders: 'You separate your wife or you will be separated from the Church.'

This itself proves that the Catholic Church is anti-christian. George Moolechalil

  3. Concentrating on the life after death in heaven, the church forstered many unnatural developments both in the lay and clerical systems. Compulsory celibacy is one of them. This contradiction exists since centuries and the church has done nothng to solve the problem. It has lost all the experiences of love. What remains is just a crooked philosophy of love of God withoug the love of human beings. This is the real root of such malices. This vicious circle is a mirror of the vicious thinking within the concrete structure of the so called canon law. Most of the bishops have a doctorate in Canon Law.
A safty door was opened by the late John XXIII, but the malicious and cunning popes and bishops closed it with their utter lack of spirituality and vision. The blind have been leading the blind too long now.

  5. IF celibacy is a prerequisite or inevitable to continue in priesthood , then those who violate it must be expelled without any mercy.( But to priests marriage is a sin but not womanizing and molestation. what a paradox!) It is shocking to see the indifferent approach of church towards such scandals.Sr Mary alleges she was assaulted by an ass like priest, that too in the morning hours while serving food. What he wanted to be served was not food but something else. It is very much clear who it was to those know her.Shortly he is likely to be branded as a saint (A saint for rapists and abusers) How can we believers go to priests for confession or trust them. AND WHAT IS PRIESTHOOD AND A PRIEST according to the Catechism of Catholic Church. Can anyone show me such a priest
