Dear
Rev. Fr. Thundathil, Fr. Vinod Madathiparambil, Fr. Johny Puthiaparampil and
Mr. Abraham Augusthy,
On
behalf of the National executive council of Syro Malabar Catholic Congress
(SMCC), I'd like to bring the following matter to your attention.
Several
weeks ago, the National President of SMCC, Mr. Savy Mathew, during a telephone
conversation with our beloved Bishop Mar. Jacob Angadiath, inquired with him if
SMCC would be allowed to conduct an official meeting of the organization during
the convention at the allocated time. However, Bishop Jacob responded by saying
that he would have to discuss this matter with the Priests who are in charge of
the Diocesan Convention - Fr. Antony Thundathil and Fr. Vinod Madathiparambil
and that he would get back to Mr. Savy Mathew. During a follow up conversation
initiated by Mr. Savy Mathew, Bishop Jacob informed that the priests in charge
of the convention are not in favor of SMCC convening any meeting and hence it
was advised that SMCC need not plan to conduct any official businesses or
meetings during the Atlanta convention.
Due
to the above reason we would like to inform you that SMCC will not be
conducting any official business or any type of meetings at the proposed time
or any other time during the convention. It should also be noted that the
National Committee of SMCC has not authorized anyone to organize or conduct any
official meeting on behalf of SMCC or be a spokes person or an official
representative of the organization during the convention.
You
may kindly remove all SMCC related agenda from the program schedule of the
convention and the proposed facility need not be reserved for SMCC any longer.
The
above decision should not be interpreted as SMCC's lack of support for the
convention. In fact, our National President declared the full support of SMCC
for this convention during the kick-off meeting at his parish in Corel Springs,
Florida where Fr. Thundathil was present. A number of current national and
various local officials and members of SMCC will be attending the convention.
The
National Committee of SMCC wishes you all success for this convention in full
christian spirit and hope and pray that this convention may lead to more
harmony, peace, tolerance and happiness within our Syro Malabar Catholic
Community in the United States.
With
prayerful regards and wishes
On
behalf of SMCC National Committee
Syriac
M. Kurian
(General
Secretary, SMCC)
