Sent by Sree Sebastian Vattamattam, I happened to read two incidences narrated by a passenger of the Indian Railways. When he noticed unbearable situations (dirty bathroom at the waiting room and lack of running water in the train) on the way he sent in a complaint followed by an SMS to the Railway's Number 8121281212. Surprisingly enough, the department took action and also showed the courtesy to inform the complainant that action had been taken.
I was wondering why not Almayasabdam suggest to the bishops conference to establish a similar helpline in each diocese for complaints from members of the church, irrespective of their age or status. Thousands of suggestions would surely flow in every day and at least some of them, would be found relevant and needing attention. If the authorities show the good will to take them seriously, the effect would be enormous. It will enliven the church, increase participation of the laity and the clergy in the life of the community and so on.
It only needs the good will of the authorities. The personnel, talent and material means to make it work is not lacking at all. Actually, such a helpline must exist in every department of civilian life and making it effective should not be a problem at all, with all the technical know-how we now possess. But let us think of such a suggestion, for the moment, as our contribution to the process of living together in the community called the church.

Brilliant suggestion, indeed!
ReplyDeleteThis should go to the Major Arch Bishop and whoever is the head of Kerala Latin Church. Let us think positive and hope they will make good use of this.
Unfortunately, though directories lists several email addresses of church authorities, messages sent to most of these email addresses bounce. Our church authorities keep email addresses only for ornamental values - it seems.
May I request anyone who has email addresses of Church authorities to forward the above post (it is so easy; click on the picture of envelope below each post with an arrow mark on it; click on that and you could forward the post to anyone you wish to, provided you know their email address) to the concerned Bishops and other authorities.
